IQ-TEC - Light revolution for bicycles
New technology from Busch & Müller surpasses German road traffic regulation standards (StVZO) requirement by a threefold margin. IQ-TEC is a revolutionary Busch & Müller brand lighting system. For decades, B & M has been known as a highly innovative manufacturer of bicycle lighting equipment. The new technology, "Made in Germany", will be presented to the public for the first time at the EUROBIKE and the IFMA in the autumn of 2007. IQ-TEC makes bike headlight brightness attainable that surpasses StVZO requirements by at least 300 percent. However, the manufacturer has by no means exhausted the brightness potential of their new design. Instead of simply setting new lux records, Busch & Müller have taped further advantageous characteristics of the new IQ-TEC: the useable lighted area of the new headlight is uniformly illuminated to a maximum extent and twice as wide as with conventional reflectors. With this new performance dimension, IQ-TEC makes night cycling safer and easier. The most remarkable technical feature of IQ-TEC is a radically-designed, newly-developed special reflector with integrated cooling system. The light comes from a high-powered LED that is used as an indirect light source. For this reason, there is no light source to be seen in the centre of the reflector. Busch & Müller aptly describe this on the packaging of the new IQ headlights as "nothing but light". IQ-TEC will be available at cycling dealers for the coming winter. Cyclists will be especially pleased to see that all the other advantages of the excellent Busch & Müller lighting equipment line, long known for superior quality, have remained entirely unchanged. IQ-TEC can achieve its unbelievable 40 lux illumination with normal 6V dynamos. The first IQ-TEC model will be the LUMOTEC IQ FLY for trekking and city bikes. Its design corresponds to the most graciously formed model, introduced in 2006, of the familiar LUMOTEC series. Of course, the LUMOTEC IQ Fly is available with lighting that remains on even when stationary and automatic ambient light sensor switch. IXON is the name of the winner among accu headlights in tests conducted by the well-known Stiftung Warentest (independent German product and services testing foundation). It will also be available with IQ-TEC in autumn 2007. With conventional accus, the IXON puts up to 40 lux on the road for five hours. Moreover, this result was measured at 10 metres from the headlight, not just directly in front. In Eco/city mode, with the same accu charge, the IXON can be switched down to the 10 lux output required by the StVZO for a full 20 hours. Naturally, there is also an IQ-TEC version for the high-performance biking athlete. The compact IXON IQ Speed with separate accu pack puts out up to 50 lux for, believe it or not, ten hours on one accu charge. If the IXON IQ Speed is installed as double headlight (only one accu pack!), the bike "burns" brightly through the night brilliantly illuminating the route with 100 lux for five hours. |
